Connie Francis (born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero, December 12, 1938) is an American pop singer and the top-charting female vocalist of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Although her chart success waned in the second half of the 1960s, Francis remained a top concert draw. Despite several severe interruptions in her career, she is still active as a recording and performing artist.

1938–1955: Early life and first appearances

Francis was born in the Italian Down Neck, or Ironbound, neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey, the first child of George Franconero, Sr., and Ida Franconero (née Ferrari-di Vito), spending her first years in a Brooklyn neighborhood on Utica Avenue/St. Marks Avenue before the family moved to New Jersey.

Growing up in an Italian-Jewish neighborhood, Francis became fluent in Yiddish, which would lead her to later record songs in Yiddish and Hebrew.

Sexual Assault

In the late 1960s, Francis went to Vietnam to sing for the troops. Through the years, she has performed charity work for organizations such as UNICEF, the USO and CARE. Following a November 1974 performance at the Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, New York, Francis was the victim of a brutal rape and robbery after an intruder broke into her hotel room and held her at knifepoint.

Marriages

Francis has been married four times. The longest-lasting union was five years (1973-1978) with Joseph Garzilli, a restaurateur and travel-agency owner. She was also married for four months to Dick Kannellis, a press agent and entertainment director for the Aladdin Hotel (1964); 10 months to Izzy Marrion,a hair-salon owner (1971-1972); and eight months to TV producer Bob Parkinson (1985-1986).

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
Then he said "That girl is no good for me"
But he was lost like a slave that no man can free

At break of day when that man drove away he was waiting
He crossed the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
He felt the knife in his hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
Then before they came to beak down the door
He told his Delilah he just couldn't take anymore

She stood there laughing
He felt the knife in his and and she laughed no more
