영화 클레오파트라(1963)에서 만나 사랑에 빠져 결혼한 후 함께 찍은 첫 작품이며, 주제곡 The Shadow of Your Smile은 아카데미 주제가상을 수상했다.

	Location[edit] The Sandpiper is one of the very few major studio pictures ever filmed in Big Sur, and the story is specifically set there. The film includes many location shots of Big Sur landmarks, including Pfeiffer Beach, Point Lobos State Reserve, Bixby Creek Bridge, the Coast Gallery (where Laura exhibits her artwork), and a pivotal scene shot on a sound stage built to resemble the restaurant Nepenthe.[3]   The Sandpiper won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "The Shadow Of Your Smile".
