The River In The Pines - 솔밭사이로 강물은 흐르고

 

The River In The Pines  

Oh, Mary was a maiden           
 When the birds began to sing 
 She was sweeter than the blooming rose 

 So early in the spring 

메리라는 아가씨 였지요

새들이 노래를 시작할쯤에

그녀는 아주 이른봄날 피어나는 장미보다

  더 향기로운 여인 이었어요. 

 

 Her thoughts were gay and happy 

And the morning gay and fine 
For her lover was a river boy 
 From the river in the pines 

 그녀의 즐거움과 행복만을 생각했죠

그리고 화창한 어느날 아침 연인을 만났죠

 솔숲 사이로 흐르는 강가에 사는 청년이었죠

  Now Charlie he got married 

  To his Mary in the spring 
  When the trees were budding early
  And the birds began to sing 

이제 챨리, 그는 어느 봄날에

그의 연인인 메리와 결혼을 했죠

나무에서 새싹이 돋아나고

새들이 노래하기 시작하는 그 봄날에

But early in the autumn  

When the fruit is in the wine 
 I'll return to you my darling 
from the river in the pines 

그러나  과일들로 와인을 담그는

이른가을이 되자

챨리는 '나는 돌아올거야 그대여' 라며

소나무들 사이를 흐르는 이강을 떠나갔죠

It was early in the morning  

In Wisconsin dreary clime
When he ruled the fatal rapids
For that last and fatal time 

이른 아침이었죠

위스콘신의 황량한 땅에...

그가 피할수 없는 급류에 휩쓸려

마지막 운명을 맞이한곳...

 

 They found his body lying  

 on the rocky shore below 
 Where the silent water ripples 
  and the whispering cedars blow

 Now every raft of lumber  

 That comes down the Chippeway

그들은 누워있는 챨리의 시신을

바위 투성이의 해안에서 발견했어요

고요한 잔물결이 일렁이고

삼나무가 바람결에 속삭이는 곳...

지금도 원목을 나르기 위한

뗏목들이 치퍼웨이 강으로 떠내려갔죠

There's a lonely grave 
that's visited by drivers on their way

They plant wild flowers upon it   

 in the morning fair and fine 
 It is the grave of two young lovers 
from the river in the pines  

자동차 여행자들이 많이 찾는

그 길목에 외로운 무덤이 하나 있어요

어느화창하게 갠 맑은날 아침

그 무덤에 사람들이 야생화를 심어주었어요

그 무덤은 솔밭사이를 흐르는 강가에 살던

젊은 두 연인들을 위한것이랍니다
